Reactions to Synthetic Hair and How to Avoid Them!

Posted by Garonne Decossard on

Did you know that the allergic reaction you are experiencing on your scalp, neck and edge area might be cause by the synthetic hair from your protective style? I am sharing the secret on how to still rock synthetic hair without the fear of compromising your scalp or skin.

Many women experience a reaction after installing braids, or crochets and often chuck it up to the price to pay to be beautiful. This reaction, unaddressed,  will irritate and inflame your follicles. This can potentially start a downward  spiral , compromising the health of your scalp and hair. Since most synthetic hair are treated with chemicals that leaves an alkaline film causing this reaction,  it's very important to treat the hair prior to installation with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar.

To do so, rinse the hair for 25 minutes in a mixture of 1 part ACV and 5 parts water. If you have already installed your hair, you can rinse your scalp and the hair with diluted ACV to alleviate the situation.

Blogger MoDiva, recounted her experience with a synthetic wig that nearly ruined her skin HERE. Lucky for her she figured out the root cause and was able to repair the damage.

As always, no style is worth the foundation of your crown.  If the situation doesn't improve, you can always remove the hair and start the process correctly the next time around.
